New CICEG president lays out strategy

He takes over leadership of CICEG from Javier Plascencia Reyes, who has been in the role since February 2015. Mr Reyes is leaving to focus on his family’s business Calzado Elefante.
Mr García heads the committee responsible for organising the Sapica shoe and leathergoods exhibition. He said he was looking forward to giving something back to “an industry that has given me so much”.
He also highlighted the key areas of focus for the organisation under his leadership: building international awareness of Mexican footwear, promoting fair trade, developing a competitive industry, increasing marketing efforts, and re-examining funding programmes.
