Mexico’s annual shoe production tops 250 million pairs

                    The Footwear Sourcing Intelligence Summit took place in New York City, US on July 25. It was organised by the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA).
Among the committee representing CICEG were the association’s president, Luis Gerardo González García, and Santiago de Mucha Mendiola, its vice president of foreign trade.
During a panel entitled ‘The growth in sourcing from India, Mexico, Cambodia and Bangladesh’, Mr de Mucha Mendiola revealed that Mexico manufactured 254 million pairs of shoes during 2016.
He added that domestic annual consumption was 310 million pairs, giving an average per capita consumption of 2.5 pairs.
Mr de Mucha Mendiola also gave details about Mexico’s footwear exports. In 2016, he said the country exported 25.36 million pairs for a value of $456.6 million. The average price of each pair was $18.01. The US was the leading export destination, taking in 78.46% of the total number of pairs.
During the first six months of 2017, he revealed that Mexico has exported 10.27 million pairs of shoes for a value of $162.52 million, giving an average price of $15.81. The US was the destination for 80.61% of footwear exports.
