Main footwear industry association CICEJ has said the volume of production among companies in Jalisco who have become outsource manufacturing partners of overseas brands is on the increase. Amandine Weber, a director of the organisation said in recent comments to local media that local manufacturer Flex is a good example.
Flex has one a major contract from Nike, she said, and has been able to increase its workforce. Across the whole state, the footwear industry employs 22,000 directly and another 30,000 people indirectly. CICEJ insists the workforce has gone up by 17.4% since December 2016.
In the first quarter of 2017, Jalisco, which is famous in Mexico as a production centre for women’s fashion shoes, made 20 million pairs. “The future looks bright,” Ms Weber said.
