Instability hampers Brazilian footwear exports

14/10/2016
Brazilian footwear companies exported 10.4 million pairs of shoes in September, according to the latest figures from Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados. The total value of the exports was $84.7 million.

Shoe exports from Brazil dropped slightly (-3.4%) compared to August but recorded a 3.6% increase year-on-year. During the first 9 months of 2016, Brazil exported a total of 87 million pairs of shoes for a value of $702.5 million. This is a slight increase on the same period last year, both in terms of quantity and value.

Heitor Klein, executive president of Abicalçados, said Brazilian footwear companies are feeling the effect of currency instability in the country, which is preventing them from performing better. He added that the Brazil’s economic crisis and the unstable political situation is also hampering footwear exports.
