Brazilian brands head to China for trade mission

Brazilian footwear industry association Abicalçados will lead a delegation of 14 shoe companies from the South American country in a trade mission to Shanghai from October 10-13, timed to coincide with the China International Fashion Fair. Export promotions agency Apex-Brasil has supported the event.

A seminar will take place the day before the mission starts, at which a number of senior figures in the Chinese footwear industry, including Thomas Gnoen of Dragonwing and Kelvin Ge of Stella Luna.

Abicalçados analyst Ruísa Scheffel said in the build-up that, although China is an exceptionally competitive market for international shoe brands, Brazilian shoes are, little by little, “winning the attention they deserve” there.

She pointed out that Brazil’s footwear exports to China have increased in value from $2.4 million in 2009 to $4.5 million in 2015.

The Brazilian firms travelling to Shanghai for the event are Amazonas Sandals, Sapatoterapia, Kidy, Kildare, Modare, Molekinha, Capodarte, Ipanema, Grendha, Zaxy, Rider, Cartago, West Coast and Cravo & Canela.
