Export figures for the Brazilian footwear industry in 2015 make painful reading for national footwear association Abicalçados. In recent comments to local media, the organisation’s executive president, Heitor Klein, said export revenues fell year on year by 8% in 2015.

The amount Brazilian shoe companies brought in from export markets fell below the $1 billion mark to $960 million.

In addition, Mr Klein revealed that levels of employment in the industry in Brazil also declined last year, from 330,000 jobs in footwear production in 2014 to 284,000 in 2015, a fall of 14%.
