Brazilian shoe exports show slight recovery

14/11/2016
Brazil exported 10.2 million pairs of shoes in October, a 1.2% increase year-on-year, according to data compiled by Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados.

The value of the exports was 18.2% higher at $84.3 million. This means the average price of each pair was $8.25, significantly up on October 2015, when it was $7.

Heitor Klein, executive president of Abicalçados, was cautious about expectations for the end of the year, despite the positive figures. He said fluctuating exchange rates made for an unpredictable end to 2016.

For the year so far, Brazilian companies have exported 97 million pairs of shoes for a value of $786.8 million. This represents respective increases of 2.1% and 0.6% compared to 2015.
