A total of 63 Brazilian companies travelled to Milan for the eighty-second edition of the Micam exhibition (September 3-6), a record number of participating companies at the event for the South American country.

Industry association Abicalçados and export promotions agency Apex-Brasil have each played a part in boosting Brazil’s presence at Micam.

In the build-up to the show, Abicalçados analyst Maria Patrícia de Freitas, said: “Expanding into export markets is hugely attractive for Brazilian shoe companies.”

She said the industry in Brazil is encouraged by the presence at Micam of large numbers of buyers (45,000 this time around) with approximately 50% coming from Italy and the other 50% from countries such as Spain, Germany, France and Russia, all of which are important markets for Brazilian footwear manufacturers.
