UAE a good option for Brazilian footwear
Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados says the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a good potential market following a trade mission to the country in May.

Leonardo Matzger, a member of the Abicalçados executive committee, was part of the delegation that visited UAE and he presented his findings at the association’s headquarters in Novo Hamburgo. He believes the country offers room for all types of products and that the potential for expansion is large.

He said that the UAE, which imported more than 400 million pairs of shoes in 2015, could be the first step in gaining access to other countries in the Middle East. By his estimations, domestic shoes consumption in the UAE is 130 million pairs and so the country must re-export a significant proportion of footwear. It allows has an average consumption of 14 pairs per person, one of the highest in the world.

Other characteristics that he highlighted as favourable to Brazilian footwear exports were a lack of bureaucracy, good infrastructure and projected strong economic growth of 3.2% in 2017.

Brazilian footwear currently makes up just 0.5% of the total footwear imported by the UAE. This equated to 1.9 million pairs in 2015.
