Representatives from Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados, including executive president Heitor Klein, and business leaders from some of the country’s most important footwear companies met with President Michel Temer on November 8 to discuss Brazil’s footwear industry.

They expressed to President Temer the importance of the footwear industry to the national economy, as well as presenting him with shoes as presents for his wife and son.

Mr Klein said the meeting was productive. Those present emphasised that there are nearly 8,000 footwear companies in Brazil, generating more than 300,000 jobs. Revenue from the footwear industry could aid the recovery of the economy.

Abicalçados said President Temer pledged to put the conditions in place for a rapid recovery of the footwear industry, as well as industry in the country overall.
