Brazilian footwear industry ends 2016 on a high
Over the course of 2016, Brazilian footwear companies exported 126 million pairs of shoes for a total value of $999 million. This represented respective increases of 1.7% and 4% compared to the previous year.

Heitor Klein, executive president of footwear association Abicalçados, said Brazil’s footwear industry had been showing signs of improvement since August. He added that the most significant increases in exports were seen from October.

The US has the principal destination for Brazilian shoe exports, with the country taking in 13.2 million pairs for a value of $221.4 million. Argentina followed, with 9.5 million pairs at a cost of $111.6 million, a 65.4% increase year-on-year. France and Paraguay were also popular destinations. Exports to Paraguay dropped, which Mr Klein attributed to revised import legislation.
