Spain’s national footwear museum in Elda will have a bigger role in attracting tourists to the autonomous community of Valencia following a visit from the director of the region’s tourism ministry.

Racquel Huete visited the museum in the province of Alicante at the end of July. She said that it would form part of Valencia’s presentation at Spain’s next International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in January 2017. She added that the museum, as well Elda’s rich history in the footwear industry, would be used to encourage tourists to visit the region.

Ruben Alfaro, Mayor of Elda, said it is important that the national footwear museum receive help from the regional government to return to its former glories, highlighting that it is “the second most important footwear museum in the world”. He explained that the museum has a wide range of features which could attract tourists and make it a key part of Valencia’s tourism strategy.
