Spain’s national footwear museum in Elda held an event on February 4 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening. It was attended by an array of local politicians, business people and other influential figures.

The museum’s director Loles Esteve presided over the event. She was joined by two of her predecessors, José María Amat y Gabriel Segura.

Ms Esteve highlighted the important role the museum has played over the past 20 years, emphasising that it has long been supported by donations from local businesses and people.

For his part, Mr Segura described the museum as “a living entity that gives added cultural value to an industry that has long generated wealth”.

The celebration was concluded by the Mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, who said that although there are challenges ahead for the museum, it is important to give it the cultural and artistic recognition it deserves. He added that the memories and knowledge contained within it must be passed on to the next generation.
