Elda to host classes for new footwear degree
21/02/2018
The course will focus on digital design and technology related to the footwear industry. It has been developed alongside footwear industry research centre Inescop and Elda’s city council. The town is an important centre for Spanish shoe manufacturing.
Teaching will take place at Inescop’s headquarters in Elche, as well as at the University of Alicante’s campus in Elda.
The programme is being launched to address a shortage of skilled labour in the Spanish footwear industry. It is believed the sector needs a further 1,000 trained workers to sustain itself.
Among the areas the course will focus on are computer-assisted shoe design, the use of robotics in the footwear industry, and digital moulding technology.
The University of Alicante hopes to expand the programme to a master’s degree in the future.
