High-end orders up for Elda

Manufacturers in Elda, a famous footwear-producing town in the Spanish province of Alicante, have experienced a 20% growth in orders from high-end fashion brands in the last four years, according to the Spanish Footwear Industry Federation (FICE).

FICE president, José Sanchís, said in recent comments to local media that big brands, Prada, Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Louboutin, have been ordering more shoes from Elda. He said that the town currently produces 20 million pairs a year and that one million of these are high-end.

“Top-end brands have always placed orders with Elda footwear manufacturers,” Mr Sanchís said. “But it’s gone up. We have been able to keep our prices in check for the last ten years. Rival footwear-making countries have seen their labour and production costs go up in that time, and as a result they are no longer as competitive as they once were.”
