Double-digit growth for Spanish footwear in first half
22/08/2014
The Spanish economy has been one of the slowest in Europe to show signs of recovery following the global economic downturn that began in 2008 and results for the first six months of this year show across-the-board growth of just 0.5% for exports of manufactured goods in general.
Footwear, though, has recorded a growth in value of 10%, bringing in export revenues of more than €1.3 billion in the January-June period in 2014.
In the province of Alicante, which is Spain’s biggest shoe-producing area and includes the major footwear-manufacturing towns of Elda and Petrer, growth was even greater. Footwear exports there increased in value by 21.5% year on year.
