Design na Pele, an initiative coordinated by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) that draws on the inspiration from fashion and design to promote innovation in the leather sector, has collaborated with a leading tannery and one of the country’s most prominent designers on a new footwear project.

Bringing together fashion designer Patrícia Viera, fashion brand Guilhermina Shoes, and tannery Couros Bom Retiro, the project will see the creation of a capsule collection of women’s shoes made from leather, which will form part of the third edition of Design na Pele.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of this project. We all carry the same goal, as well as the same creative perceptions”, said Ms Viera.

“When we first joined Design na Pele, we had no idea where it would take us. We faced the challenge and learned how to sharpen our creative to the sectors reality, giving the well-deserved value to our surroundings,” said Cássia Harth, research and development manager at Couros Bom Retiro.

The tannery has been part of the Design na Pele initiative since its first edition. Ms Harth says the third edition of the project is the most complete and mature yet, which will allow even greater creativity.
