Abicalçados points Brazilian shoe exporters towards Colombia

Brazilian footwear industry body Abicalçados is arranging a working visit to Colombia in July for member companies. The organisation has said the visit is specifically aimed at Brazilian footwear firms that are entering export markets for the first time.

With traditionally important markets such as Argentina becoming more difficult for Brazilian firms (because of ongoing trade disputes between the two neighbours), Colombia is becoming one of their most important export markets.

In 2010, Brazilian shoe companies shipped 3.4 million pairs to Colombia for $20.2 million. By 2014, the figures for volume and for value had more than doubled, with 7.4 million pairs crossing the border from Brazil, bringing in export revenues of $48.7 million.

Cristian Schlindwein, who heads up the Abicalçados market development team, said on inviting Brazilian footwear producers to apply to take part in the Colombia trip that the visit would include a special seminar on the Colombian market, attendance at the International Footwear and Leather Show (IFLS), which takes place in Bogotá at the end of July, as well as visits to retail centres in and around the Colombian capital.
