Ferragamo stops 90,000 sales of fake goods in 2014
Footwear and leathergoods brand Salvatore Ferragamo has said a growing awareness from legislators of the problems of counterfeiting helped it to shut down 350 websites in 2014 and stopped 90,000 online sales.
The Italian group’s anti-counterfeiting efforts also included the seizure and destruction of over 10,000 counterfeit products and the Chinese customs authorities’ confiscation of more than 1,500 counterfeit products leaving the country. The estimated value of these goods exceeded $7 million dollars.
It described the problem as a “fierce global battle” that “beleaguers top luxury brands” and vowed to continue in its efforts.
“We will intensify our commitment to fighting counterfeiting in 2015, both to protect our intellectual property rights and to defend our customers,” said chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo. “We will continue to wage this war with great determination, expanding controls both online and offline and ramping up anti-counterfeit measures, including with the customs authorities.”
