Seven brands on hand, but Iguatemi CEO shops elsewhere for shoes

Brazilian business figure Carlos Jereissati has plenty of shopping options as he is he chief executive of Iguatemi, the company that runs one of Brazil’s biggest malls, the Iguatemi shopping centre in São Paulo.

Of the more than 300 shops on site, seven offer high-end men’s footwear, including outlets for Ermenegildo Zegna, Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as Brazilian brands Ricardo Almeida, Sapataria Cometa, VR São Paulo and intriguing hand-made shoe specialist Sergio Luiz Kamalakian Savone under his Sergio K label.

However, in a recent appearance in the Financial Times’s Power Dressing column, Mr Jereissati revealed that, when it comes to shoes, he shops elsewhere.

He told the FT that Iguatemi is proud to have been the site of the first Gucci store in the Americas and that he is “a very loyal customer”, choosing his “stylish and conservative” suits in suitably lightweight fabrics from there. Not shoes, though.

For shoes, the Iguatemi chief executive is a Tod’s man, even though there is no Tod’s outlet at the mall.

“I walk around our malls and building projects, as well as stores in other cities constantly, so comfort is key in my choice of footwear,” Mr Jereissati said. “I typically wear Tod’s boots in either dark brown or black leather. I like their suede versions as well.”
