FT identifies Colombian footwear firm as ‘stealth superbrand’

A feature in the Financial Times highlighted five brands from around the world that it said fashion insiders already knew and loved and deserved to come to the attention of a wider public.

Among the five was Aquazzura, a footwear label launched in 2011 by Colombian designer Edgardo Osorio.

Mr Osorio studied at the London College of Fashion and then worked for Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo and Sigerson Morrison, but told the FT he had been inspired to launch Aquazzura after attending 12 weddings in one year and identifying fashionable women’s need for elegant shoes that are comfortable enough to dance in at the end of an evening’s revelries. To achieve this, he has suede as the material of choice in many of his shoes and boots.

He has based the brand in Florence and says he is committed to helping preserve traditional Tuscan artisan footwear-making skills.
