Brazilian footwear companies are expected to bank business worth $6.2 million as a result of their participation in the 2017 Bogotá International Footwear and Leather Show (IFLS), according to industry association Abicalçados.

A total of 27 Brazilian brands took part in the event, which ran from August 9-11. Their attendance was supported by Brazilian Footwear, a joint initiative between Abicalçados and export promotions agency Apex-Brasil.

Abicalçados revealed that the companies sold 140,000 pairs during the event itself, for a value of $1.55 million. It expects the meetings and negotiations conducted at IFLS to bring this total up to $6.2 million in the coming months.

Alice Rodrigues, who is responsible for promoting the activities of Abicalçados, said the results from this year’s event were similar to those of IFLS 2016. She added that, although the organisation’s high expectations were not quite met, it believes participation at IFLS will increase Brazil’s footwear exports by at least 2.6 million pairs in 2017.
