Brazilian shoe fair grows despite uncertainty

Organisers of the Brazilian shoe fair International Leather and Footwear Fair (SICC) have said this year’s event has grown 8% in footage despite uncertainty in the industry.

The fair, under way in Gramado (May 22 to 24), has attracted 1,500 companies.

On display is a collaboration between Brazilian tanning association CICB and Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados), part of Design na Pele. The Kildare and Ronaldo Fraga collective launched a collection of men’s shoes, including skate shoes made of soft leather from tanneries Rusan, Bom Retiro and Moderno that they say imitates canvas.

"Associations like this oxygenate the footwear sector. I hope they serve as stimuli for others in this area,” said designer Ronaldo Fraga.
