Brazilian shoe brands make a success of Russian trade mission

Brazilian footwear industry association Abicalçados has said a trade mission to Russia involving 34 shoe brands from the South American country will generate business worth more than $4 million.

The shoe companies visited Russia at the start of June with the support of export promotions agency Apex-Brasil.

According to Abicalçados, the companies that made up the Brazilian delegation made contact with around 300 buyers. In most cases, these were new contacts.

This is the fifth time Abicalçados and Apex-Brasil have organised a trade mission to Russia. Project director, Roberta Ramos, said 95% of the business the Brazilian companies secured in Russia was for shoes they make under their own brand names, rather than private-label contracts. She said this is an indication that the ability of Brazilian footwear brands to capture market share overseas is increasing.
