Brazilian shoe exports hit a bump in first quarter
Brazil exported 31.33 million pairs of shoes during the first three months of 2017, a 1.6% drop compared to the same quarter of last year, according to the latest data from Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados.

The value of these exports was $259 million, a 14.2% increase year-on-year. Heitor Klein, president of Abicalçados, explained that the price of Brazilian footwear was boosted by a drop in value of the US dollar. The average price of each pair exported during the first quarter was $8.27, 16% higher than during the same period of 2016. 

In the first three months of the year, the US was the leading destination for Brazilian footwear, importing 3.16 million pairs for a value of $48 million. It was followed by Argentina, where sales increased 50% in volume and 104.5% in value compared to the first quarter of 2016.
