Label would help Spanish shoemakers certify the quality of their products

Spain’s national footwear museum in Elda and Valencia shoe industry association Avecal are considering a proposal to create a new label that would allow local manufacturers to authenticate the quality of their products. The proposal has been made by a local authority.

The label would also cover other qualities such as comfort, environmental responsibility and good social and labour practices. It would be available to all Spanish footwear manufacturers, but the focus would be on those located in Elda and the surrounding area.

The groups are exploring the idea as a way to help local companies become more competitive in domestic and international markets.

The footwear museum in Elda would take charge of setting up the label. Other organisations such as footwear industry research centre Inescop and FICE, Spain’s principal footwear association, have reportedly expressed their interest in being involved.
