In its new sustainability report, the Italian group describes Manovia as a “little wonder of craftsmanship”.
Manovia produces the prototypes and fine-tunes the structures (stretchers, heels, insoles and soles) for new models. Around 20, mostly young, people produce 30 to 40 pairs of shoes a day.
The division also manufactures limited edition models that are part of the Ferragamo's Creations collection.
In Ferragamo’s most comprehensive sustainability report yet, it disclosed that almost all (99.4%) of its hides are sourced in Italy and that one third of its shoemakers are based in Tuscany, a third in Campania and the rest elsewhere in Italy.
One third of these have been manufacturing for the group for more than 11 years.
CEO Ferruccio Ferragamo (pictured) committed to Italian manufacturing in the report. “The enrichment of our people and the area in which we operate is a fundamental aspect of our day-to-day operations and a key priority when we plan initiatives,” he said.
The group employs around 4,000 and operates 680 mono-brand stores.
The report can be read on the corporate website.
