More than 26,000 visitors were from outside Italy, an increase of 8%, while the 18,105 Italian footwear professionals who travelled to Milan for the event represented an increase of 1.2% compared to February 2016. Russian visitors grew in number by 18%; there were 20% more visitors from Ukraine than last February and 53% more from South Korea.
There were 1,405 exhibitors in total, 795 of them from Italy.
Organiser Assocalzaturifici said that this edition of Micam’s “sensational new development” was the presence of Fendi, Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada and Tod’s. These luxury brands chose to attend the event for the first time, in support of Italian footwear manufacturing and of young designers.
The organisation’s president, Annarita Pilotti, said it had been “an historic edition” of the show. She thanked Tod’s chief executive, Diego Della Valle, acted on a request she had put to him to lend his support to Micam and to convince his counterparts in other big-name brands to do the same.
