SATRA conducts ‘world’s largest’ foot survey
Footwear testing institute SATRA is to release the results of a three-year project in which it conducted foot measurement surveys of subjects in the UK, USA and China.
The SATRA foot scanner uses lasers and cameras to capture a 3D model of each foot, which is then used to measure length, joint girth and instep height.
Participants were also asked for the shoe size they would normally purchase. It was noted that male participants tended to be more likely to favour a larger shoe size than the dimensions suggest, while women were more likely to select a smaller shoe.
The results of the survey - which SATRA claims is the largest of its kind - will be revealed to members in the UK on September 30, the US on October 28 and 30, and in China on November 16.
