India spies opportunity to supply leather to Vietnam
Representatives from six Indian tanneries have met footwear businesses in the Vietnamese capital with the aim of plugging the gap in the country's leather needs.
Vietnam is a significant footwear exporter, with production increasing rapidly, and its domestic leather supply is not enough to service demand.
India’s Council for Leather Exports representative D Gokulakrishnan told local media: "Vietnamese companies can come to India to procure leather, finished leather for shoes, and footwear components.
“Indian footwear companies can come here to establish their units and tap the huge market potential here because Vietnam is going to sign the Transpacific Partnership and Free Trade Agreements with the EU."
