Big rise in the value of Vietnamese footwear exports

03/06/2015
New figures from Vietnam’s ministry of industry and trade show that the value of the country’s footwear exports in the first five months of 2015 was more than $4.6 billion, an increase of 19.5% compared to the same period last year.

A survey by the General Statistics Office found that 55.7% of shoe manufacturers in Vietnam increased the number of their export customers in the second quarter of 2015.

There has also been an increase this year in overseas companies putting money into the Vietnamese footwear sector, with South Korean firms the biggest investors so far, the ministry said, explaining that this appeared to be in anticipation of a positive change in Vietnam’s trading status if trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership go through.
