Record shoe exports from Vietnam in first quarter
Continuing on its growth trajectory, Vietnam exported shoes with a record value of $2.5 billion in the first quarter, according to Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) and reported by local press.
Lefaso is targeting a record $14 billion in exports for 2015, compared with $12 billion last year.
Vice-president Diep Thanh Kiet said prices to major markets like the US, Japan, Australia, and South America remain stable but some companies have increased prices to account for the minimum wage hike.
He also reported cases of brands asking manufacturers who signed US dollar-based contracts to reduce prices to take into account the weakness of the dollar against the euro.
