Vietrade lauds footwear’s ‘fast growth’ in Shanghai

Fast growth in the Vietnamese shoe industry won mention from Vietrade director-general, Vu Ba Phu (pictured centre), during a press conference to mark the launch of Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textile and Textile Technologies (VIATT) in August.

The event was arranged by VIATT co-organiser Messe Frankfurt’s Hong Kong office and held during Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics (Intertextile Apparel).

VIATT’s inaugural edition will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, beginning February 28. Government body Vietrade, also known as the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, expects the fair will become “a prime destination for all key players in the textile and garment industry in Asia”, Mr Phu said, including buyers and sellers of clothtech materials for footwear and fashion.

On the domestic footwear industry, he highlighted how improved living standards in Vietnam and its population of over 100 million people had resulted in accelerated growth in recent years. The south-east Asian nation ranked third among the world’s top garment exporters in 2022.

Speaking as he was from Shanghai, Mr Phu went on to tell reporters that he hoped VIATT would serve to “supplement” Chinese suppliers’ sourcing moving forward and described the Sino-Vietnamese relationship as “perfect”.
