Footwear still the shining light for Pakistan's leather industry

05/04/2019
Pakistan’s leather sector achieved export revenues of just over $573 million in the first eight months of the current financial year, July 2018-February 2019, according to figures from the country’s Federal Bureau of Statistics.

This represents a decline of 9.7% compared to the same months of the previous fiscal year. This was down due to a fall in exports of finished leather and leather goods. Leather footwear exports increased, however.

The latest figures show that exports of finished leather were worth $166.2 million, down 21.7% year-on-year. Leathergoods exports, meanwhile, fell 7.3% to $326.6 million.

The value of leather footwear exports during the period was $80.3 million, an increase of 14.55% compared to the figure for the same months of the previous year.
