Pakistan leather sector still struggling for growth despite footwear success

Pakistan’s leather industry brought in export revenues of $360 million in the first five months of the current tax year, July-November 2018. The data comes from the country’s Federal Bureau of Statistics

This represents a fall of 8.1% compared to the same months a year earlier. Exports of finished leather and of leathergoods accounted for most of the decline.

Finished leather exports brought in $108.3 million over the five-month period, a fall of 18.2%. Exports of leathergoods brought in $205.5 million, which is 6.4% less than in the same period a year earlier.

Exports of leather footwear over this period brought in $45.8 million, an increase of 16.5% compared to July-November 2017.
