Pakistan: shoes compensate for falling value of leather

Figures for the first eleven months of the current financial year, July 2017-May 2018, show export growth for Pakistan’s leather sector of 4.4% to reach a total of $869.

Tanners exported 27.7 million square-metres of leather during the period, bringing in revenues of $304.2 million. These figures represent an increase in volume of 32% but a decline in value of 3.4%.

Exports of leathergoods brought in almost $480 million over the 11 months, an increase year on year of 8%.

And over the same months, Pakistan’s footwear manufacturers exported 9.3 million pairs of shoes, bringing in revenues of $97.4 million, indicating an increase in volume of 1.9% and growth in value of 11.5%.
