Footwear group Caleres has reported consolidated sales of $632.1 million during the first quarter of the financial year (ended May 5).

This performance is almost identical to the same period of last year.

The group’s brand portfolio, which includes brands like Allen Edmonds, Sam Edelman, Diane von Furstenberg and Dr Scholl’s Shoes, recorded sales of $268.7 million, 1.4% higher year on year. It gave no details of the performance of individual brands.

Revenue from Caleres’ discount retail chain Famous Footwear fell 0.8% to $363.4 million.

Following the release of the results, Diane Sullivan, president and CEO of Caleres, told investors the group continues to capitalise on the “shift to digital demand”.

E-commerce sales from the group’s brand portfolio were 12% higher year on year in the first quarter.

“E-commerce is growing even faster than we expected and our strategic shift to in-house fulfilment for our brand portfolio will enable us to more efficiently process smaller order quantities on a more frequent basis,” Ms Sullivan added.
