The acting director of Nigeria’s Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr Ekeria Ngozie-Oparah, has revealed the organisation is to produce boots for members of the country’s armed forces.

The announcement was made following a visit to the institute by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin. According to local media reports, his spokesperson expressed appreciation for the facilities and quality of staff there.

This development is in line with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to see more products made in the country.

Dr Ngozie-Oparah said the institute has the capacity to produce 20,000 military boots in a short period of time.
