At least 80% of shoes in Nigeria are imported from China with only 10% made in the country, according to the Nigeria Daily Post, quoting the director of the Department of Livestock and Disease Control, Dr Joseph Nyager.

Dr Nyager made the comments during a workshop on leather supply chains in Abuja, adding that the other 10% of shoes come from Europe and Morocco.

He said the country’s finished leather goods was underdeveloped but the ministry is embarking on new initiatives to strengthen the leather commodity value chains.
