Indian footwear institute receives government recognition
India’s Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) has been declared an Institute of National Importance by the government, which means it will be able to award degrees and expand.

It will be free to develop courses leading to graduate and post graduate degrees, doctoral and post-doctoral courses and research in in footwear and leather products design and development.

It currently offers courses on footwear, leathergoods, retail and management to around 2,500 students across eight campuses spread over India. 

The new status means the institute will now be able to enrol 2,500 more students in the upcoming admission session, across its 12 campuses, with four new campuses opening in the next academic session.
