The Indian government has approved a new leather development programme (ILDP) for the country. The programme will run until 2017 and will attract funding of around $160 million. In a statement, the government said its aim was to encourage the overall development of the leather sector.

“Sub-schemes” that will make up the programme will include the setting up of two new branches of India’s Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI).
