The value of exports fell considerably, however. They were worth €2.6 billion, a 10% drop on the value of shoes exported in 2015. The average price of each pair was €17.12, more than €2 less than in 2015.
Some of Spain’s most important footwear markets suffered substantial setbacks, with the value of exports to France (-21%), Germany (-10%), UK (-15%), Portugal (-8%) and Belgium (-39%) all falling.
There was some good news; the value of Spain’s footwear exports to the US (+13%), Italy (+9%) and China (+6%) all increased.
