“Special” edition of Micam exhibition gets underway
The 2017 edition of the Micam footwear show (February 12-15) has officially opened in Milan, with more than 1,400 brands present.

The exhibitors, which include almost 800 Italian companies, are presenting their footwear collections for Autumn/Winter 2017-18.

Paolo Borghini, managing director of the Micam exhibition, said the event is “first and foremost a meeting point between offer and demand that has no equal at international levels”.

He explained that the current edition, Micam’s 83rd, represents a “turning point” following several changes. Among these are a greater focus on luxury shoes. Leading Italian brands, including Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada and Tod’s, are among those in attendance.

There are also a greater number of “emerging designers” exhibiting this year, something which Mr Borghini said is designed to boost the growth of these brands.

Annarita Pilotti, president of Italian footwear manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici, said this edition of Micam is a special one because it marks the culmination of a “long process of change”.

“As always, the exhibition will see a wide and full range of top quality products on offer. It will be an occasion of business, internationalism and market development,” she added.
