GDS workshop to discuss sustainable footwear
The July edition of footwear exhibition GDS in Dusseldorf will feature a workshop to teach companies how to adopt sustainable business strategies. The “Green Shoes for a Sustainable life” workshop will take place on July 28, the final day of the three-day event, and will focus on helping companies increase the value of their business whilst having a positive influence on society and the environment.

It will be organised by the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) and other European partners of the “Step To Sustainability” project, an initiative which aims to create a new training course in the area of sustainable manufacturing in footwear. This will result in a qualification that will equip members of the industry with the necessary skills to tackle sustainability issues and contribute to improving the competitiveness of footwear manufacturers.

Carmen Arias Castellano, general secretary of the CEC, points out that “not only the environment benefits from a sustainable strategy”. She said that it can also allow businesses to grow revenues, cut costs, attract more employees, increase productivity through a healthier workplace and improve relationships with stakeholders and communities.
