No-heel concept from Li-Ning wins award
Chinese athletic footwear brand Li-Ning is set to receive an iF Design Award for its no-heel Dragonflight shoe concept in Berlin on May 15.
The silhouette was named winner in the competition's Professional Concept category, in recognition of the decision to forgo a typical running shoe heel in favour of “propulsion optimisation”, according to organiser iF International Forum Design, based in Hanover. Its particular design and innovative construction delivers “acceleration efficiency and speed performance,” the organiser added.
Other notable technical features include embedded carbon plates, high-rebound technology in the midsole and use of the brand’s own Boom fibre for the upper.
A jury of 133 design experts reviewed close to 11,000 submissions from 56 countries over three days in March.
