Bradford-based retailer of sports footwear, fitness apparel and outdoor gear SportsShoes.com, founded by English former professional footballer Bruce Bannister in 1982, has announced the appointment of Jon Cleaver as its new chief technology officer (CTO).

Mr Cleaver most recently served as CTO at European sneaker and streetwear marketplace Klekt and previously held the same title at fast fashion e-tailer In The Style, British furniture retailer Sofology and UK small business consultancy Peninsula.

Managing director at SportsShoes.com, Brett Bannister, stated that the firm’s plans moving forward include upgrading customer experience of the e-commerce site with Mr Cleaver’s help, plus transforming its platform into “the most technology-led retailer in running and performance sports”.

The new hire will also be expected to implement activity designed to retain and grow repeat business from covid-era customers who turned to outdoor fitness training to keep fit during national lockdowns, the company added.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr Cleaver first stepped his new role in January.
