Guangdong footwear delegation visits Wenzhou

Chairman of Guangdong Shoe Manufacturers Association, Liu Suilong, recently led an industry delegation to Wenzhou to inspect and share knowledge around the city’s footwear production.

The intention behind the visit was to support Wenzhou in accelerating its transformation and ‘upgrading’, local media said, as well as to lay the groundwork for potential collaboration between footwear companies located in Wenzhou city and Guangdong province.

According to the mayor of Wenzhou, Yao Gaoyuan, there is broad scope for the two localities to work hand in hand to establish the city, located in Zhejiang province, as “first” in the country in terms of “high-end” production, design, retail innovation, material research and development, logistics and celebrity live broadcasting capabilities.

For his part, Mr Liu commented that Wenzhou is currently in the process of progressing “from China’s shoe capital to the world’s shoe capital” and, as a result, the scope for cooperation between the city and Guangdong province is “unprecedented”.

Mr Liu cited Guangdong’s “advantages” in fashion design, intelligent manufacturing, smart supply chains and access to international brands as areas in which it has particular influence at present, but added that he hoped each locality would play to its own strengths to achieve their joint goal: to better establish Wenzhou as a leading engine in the development of China’s footwear industry.
