Over the four days, they presented their collections for autumn-winter 2019/2020 to buyers and trade visitors from Russia as well as from nearby countries like Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
Annarita Pilotti, Assocalzaturifici president, said: “Looking after this market remains key for our companies. Our association continues to give operational support to companies that want to consolidate their business in an extremely crucial area for our export.”
In the first 11 months of 2018, Italy exported 5.2 million pairs of shoes to Russia for a total value of €316 million. This represented a drop off 11.5% in value compared to the same period of 2017.
Assocalzaturifici pointed to “the persistence of uncertainty” in the relationship between Russia and the European Union and “stagnation” in domestic consumption as reasons for this.
On this subject, Ms Pilotti said: “In a climate exacerbated by the presence of sanctions with respect to the access of Russian banks to financial capital, it is inevitable that our exports will be strongly penalised.”
