Japan-EU agreement goods news for Italian shoes
Italian shoe manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici is one of the industry bodies to have reacted positively to the successful completion of negotiations on a free-trade deal between the European Union and Japan.

A vote at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on December 12 approved an economic partnership agreement between the European Union and Japan.

Once in force, this new agreement will create a trade zone of 600 million people with one-third of global gross domestic product and about 40% of global trade. It will eventually remove almost all customs duties on goods shipped between Japan and the European Union.

Assocalzaturifici said that tariffs on high-end Italian shoes shipping to Japan would reduce from 30% at the moment to 21% when the economic partnership agreement comes into force but that these tariffs will be eliminated over the course of ten years.
