Pensole launches 2018 World Sneaker Championship

01/03/2018
Registration is now open for the 2018 World Sneaker Championship (WSC), with applicants able to submit their entries until March 25.

The contest was created in 2014 by the Pensole Footwear Design Academy, making it the first global sneaker design competition. Its goal is to discover and develop the next generation of sneaker designers.

“Our goal has always been to identify and develop the next generation of great sneaker designers,” said D’Wayne Edwards, founder of Pensole. “In three years we have been able to do that and, WSC has grown to be Pensole’s most celebrated and anticipated competition each year, worldwide.”

As in previous years, Pensole and its partners, US retailer Foot Locker and Japanese technology company Wacom, will select the best 64 designers. They will then go head-to-head in a series of knock-out contests, which are decided by public vote.

The final four designers will challenge each other face-to-face in front of a live audience at Pensole’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon. The overall winner after these battles will be crowned the World Sneaker Champion, receiving more than $20,000 in cash, design products from Wacom worth more than $8,000 and scholarships to Pensole.

A limited quantity of their winning sneaker design will be produced and sold at Foot Locker stores around the world.
